About us:

The Jersey Opera House is a dynamic theatre dedicated to delivering exceptional performances and supporting both emerging and established talent. We are seeking a detail-oriented Operations Manager to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Operations Manager is responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the theatre’s front of house, customer facing areas, ensuring the highest standards of audience experience and staff welfare. This role overseas the implementation of all theatre policies, including health and safety, and plays a key part in the day-to-day and strategic operations of the venue.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage operational structures to support the successful running of the venue.
  • Lead, manage, and support the Front of House and Theatre Operations Teams.
  • Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, and conducting appraisals for key staff members under their responsibilities.
  • Coordinate and manage venue schedules, ensuring efficient use of spaces and staff resources.
  • Direct and oversee monthly stock checks, ensuring effective inventory control and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety policies, procedures, and legal requirements, including food hygiene and fire safety.
  • Monitor and manage operational budgets in collaboration with the senior management team.
  • Prepare regular reports on operations, staffing, and venue performance for senior leadership.
  • Undertaker general administrative and operational duties, providing cover for team members during absences, including evening, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of systems and processes to enhance audience experience and staff working conditions.
  • Maintain a visible presence during events to ensure excellent customer service and operational standards.

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated senior-level experience in managing theatres or live event venues.
  • Strong leadership with a track record of supervising front-line, customer-facing teams.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Sound financial acumen, including budget management, stock control, and understanding of financial systems.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute high-profile events.
  • Creative, proactive, and resourceful problem-solver.
  • High proficiency in administration, Microsoft Office, and venue technologies, including hybrid event equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety, licensing, and food hygiene regulations relevant to venue operations.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment.
  • Adaptable, resilient, and professional, with a positive attitude.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • A genuine interest in theatre and the performing arts (desirable).

 

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in operations management, ideally within a cultural or performance venue.
  • Working knowledge of licensing legislation.
  • Strong skills in budgeting and cost control.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification or equivalent.
  • First Aid at Work and Fire Warden training (or willingness to obtain).
  • A proactive, improvement-focused mindset and a positive, can-do approach to work.
